چکیده
Sir,?In the Indian Medical Gazette of (i) January 1938, page 17, (?) April 1938, page 254, (Hi) August 1938, page 468, you published articles and letters on the subject of the breeding places of Siphunculina junicola. Since 24th March, 1937, I have been carrying out an investigation to try and find out the natural breeding places of the Siphunculina junicola fly in this area. I can now report definitely that the Siphunculina junicola in this area breeds naturally in thatch grass, and that in this area it has never been found to breed in ammoniacal soil or decaying vegetation. In this investigation we have examined nearly 800 collections (boxes or bottles) of material, running into thousands of separate microscopical examinations. Up to this hot weather season of 1938, though we had bred the Siphunculina junicola in thatch grass, we never succeeded in breeding it out in numbers. During the present year, however, with a plight alteration in our technique we have bred many Siphunculina junicola flies in the thatch grass in which eggs, larvse and pupse were found; in these experiments no media was used except the original thatch grass in which the Siphunculina junicola in its young'forms were found. In all, on 27 occasions, flies have been hatched out in

Three new species and one new record of the genus Siphunculina from China (Diptera, Chloropidae)
Three new species of the genus Siphunculina Rondani from China, S. bulbiferasp. n., S. scalpriformissp. n., and S. shangyongensissp. n., are described and illustrated. One species, S. funicola (de Meijere), is reported from China for the first time. A key to the species of genus Siphunculina from China is given.

Control of aggregated populations of the eye fly Siphunculina funicola (diptera: chloropidae) using pyrethroid aerosols.
Three commercially available insecticide aerosol compositions containing cyphenothrin, imiprothrin, cypermethrin, d-tetramethrin and permethrin, in various combinations and concentrations were evaluated for control of the oriental eye flies Siphunculina funicola (de Meijere) from their aggregation substrates in two villages in the Chon Buri Province, Thailand. Each aerosol produced almost compl...
متن کاملThe eye fly Siphunculina funicola (Diptera: Chloropidae) as a carrier of pathogenic bacteria in Thailand.
The oriental eye fly Siphunculina funicola (1.0-1.6 mm) is extremely annoying to humans and domestic animals, feeding on mucous membranes, secretions, wounds, eyes, and other moist surfaces of the host body. In many rural areas of Thailand heavy populations of this fly prevail where they aggregate on a variety of hanging substrates, such as strings, nest trailings, electrical lines, decorations...
